Portfolio Requirements

There are two parts to the application process in order to be accepted by both the University and to the department of art and art history. You must submit a completed application form to the University’s Office of Admissions and a portfolio of recent work to the art department.

Portfolio Requirements for Admission to the Freshman Class
Students wishing to enter Adelphi University as an art major can mail a portfolio of images representing their studio work in the form of 35mm slides or a CD. The portfolio should be accompanied by a letter of introduction addressed to the department chairman. If desired, an appointment can be made to visit our studios, meet the chaiman, and present the portfolio
82 in person. (The portfolio should include 12 to 20 examples of recent work in any media.)

We also schedule several “portfolio review days” on campus in both the fall and spring semesters. These events provide an excellent opportunity to see the studios, meet faculty and obtain a portfolio review and interview in one stop.

The Department of Art and Art History awards a substantial number of art talent scholarships each year to entering students. Eligibility for these awards is determined at the time of the interview and portfolio presentation.

Financial Aid
You have many options when it comes to financing your education. At Adelphi, 88% of our 4,758 undergraduate students receive financial aid. In 2005–2006, the University awarded full-time undergraduate students an average financial aid package of $14,100, and 75% of full-time freshmen received scholarships or need-based grants. Transfer Students
We accept transfer students throughout the year in all concentrations. Transfer students should call 516.877.4460 to arrange a meeting with David Hornung, the department chair. Please bring a portfolio of no more than 20 examples of recent work and a transcript of your previous academic record to the meeting.
