Study Abroad
Adelphi offers students the unique opportunity to study abroad in China through accredited programs sponsored by Brethren Colleges Abroad (BCA) and the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE). Through classes and trips, students learn the language and experience the culture of the world's most populous nation.

Brethren Colleges Abroad - Dalian
The Brethren Colleges Abroad undergraduate program is hosted by Dalian University of Foreign Languages (DUFL). Its Chinese Studies Institute offers Chinese language classes at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels.
Known as "the Hong Kong of the north," Dalian, located at the southern tip of the Liaodong Peninsula is the largest port in northeastern China. DUFL has approximately 4,500 international students.
Eligibility Requirements
The program is open to all students with an interest in Chinese or Asian history. There is no language requirement.
Cost
The $9,000 cost for a semester of study includes tuition, room and board, and excursions. Students will reside in residence halls. However, students with proficiency in advanced Chinese may request other arrangements.

Prior to applying, Adelphi students must first contact the Office of International Student Services and Study Abroad (OISS).
Program Dates
The spring program runs from March 7 to July 15, 2006.

Council on International Educational Exchange - Peking
The Council on International Education Exchange (CIEE) offers a program of intensive Mandarin language training at Peking University, one of China's most prestigious institutions. Located in Beijing, the Peking University Center for Teaching Chinese offers eight different language levels and diverse elective courses in language, linguistics, and literature. Instruction is in English and Mandarin.
Subject areas include:
- Mandarin Chinese
- Classical Chinese Literature
- Contemporary Chinese Culture
- Contemporary Chinese Literature
Classes are supplemented with individual language tutorials and field trips. Full-time CIEE staff is on site.
Eligibility Requirements
- overall 2.75 GPA
- two to six semesters of college-level Mandarin Chinese or its equivalent
- one Chinese area studies course recommended.
Note: Peking University will not accept students who are citizens of the People's Republic of China (PRC), Taiwan ROC, Hong Kong SAR, or Macau. This includes students with permanent resident status in the United Status.
Cost
Spring 2006: $9,400
Costs for the fall 2006 semester and the 2006-07 academic year will be available on December 15, 2005.
Housing is provided in the foreign student complex. Off-campus apartments are also available.
Recommended Credit
semester: 15-17 semester/22.5-25.5 quarter hours
academic year: 30-34 semester/45-51 quarter hours

Fall 2006: 15 weeks from late August through mid-December
