Many students who have a B.S. or B.A. in Biology or a related field and are interested in becoming health professionals enroll in the Master of Science (M.S.) in Biology program to strengthen their premedical or predental credentials. While the focus of the M.S. program is in Biology, successful completion of thesis research or a scholarly paper and a good academic record throughout the program can be a factor positively affecting admission to professional schools.
M.S. students who are preparing to apply to health professional schools should register with the Office of Pre-professional Advising and Fellowships. This office will guide you through the necessary steps. For more details, please check with the Office of Pre-professional Advising and Fellowships website.
Note that students possessing a bachelor's degree in non-science disciplines who did not complete the required science courses in their undergraduate degree program can take these required courses and appropriate ancillary courses and receive counseling and letters of evaluation in support of their professional school applications by enrolling in the Advanced Certificate in Basic Sciences for Health Professions program. Alternatively, students can take these courses as non-matriculated undergraduate students.
