Undergraduate Programs Guided Research

This web page is being reviewed and is expected to be updated for the Fall 2009 semester. In the meantime, please contact the department's administrative office for updates about academic requirements.

Undergraduate biology students at Adelphi University have the opportunity to undertake guided research in the laboratory or in the field under the supervision of faculty. To receive credit for satisfactory research work, students must first contact and arrange to do research with a specific faculty member and then register for the appropriate research course.
  • Students who plan to fulfill their Capstone Experience requirement by completing a research thesis, and/or are seeking Honors in Biology, should take BIO 498 followed by BIO 499.

  • Students who want to get research experience but are not seeking Honors in Biology and will not use a research thesis to fulfill their Capstone Experience requirement should begin with BIO 497. These students may if they choose continue in research either with BIO 498 (thesis not required) or with BIO 499 (thesis required).
