The English program is designed to give students an appreciation of the interrelationship between reading and writing through the study of literature. The program encourages students to develop as readers and writers through the study of poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and drama.

Students can earn a B.A. in English. The program offers majors the opportunity to concentrate in literature or creative writing. Students can also minor in English.

The program emphasizes the diversity of literature in English across a range of genres, periods, authors, and cultures. The program includes courses in British, American, and world literatures in English and in translation.
