ENG 231: Literature In English I 3 credits A survey of British literature from 10th to 17th century, focusing on representative works, attention to historical, intellectual and social contexts, the heroic code; the chivalric code; courtly aestheticism; Christian humanism; the reformation; and the role of women. Provides a foundation in the period and in reading literature in English.
