Computer and Management Information Systems Major, Typical SchedulesOur incoming students have a wide variety of backgrounds in both computer programming -- ranging from "never written a program before" to "several years of C++ programming experience running their own consulting company" -- and mathematics -- from high school algebra to AP Calculus. The department is flexible enough to accommodate all these different backgrounds. See Where Do I Start? for help in choosing a first course. Following is a sample schedule for a student entering as a freshman, with relatively little background in both math and computer science. Students with stronger backgrounds may skip MTH 110/140, CSC 160, CSC 171, or CSC 172; consult an advisor.
Here's a schedule for a student transferring to Adelphi from a community college. This student has an Associate's degree, and is therefore exempt from general-education requirements, but hasn't taken any of the courses for the CMIS degree.
