[Adelphi] [Study] [A & S] [Math/CS Dept.] [Courses & Programs] [Undergraduate Computer and Management Information Systems]

Bachelor's Degree Program in Computer and Management Information Systems

Adelphi's CMIS program gained final approval in Summer, 2002, and is now up and running. Current students (e.g. in CS or Business) who wish to change majors to CMIS should contact their department for a Change of Major Form. Since some students have already taken most of these courses, we anticipate graduating our first students in CMIS in May, 2003.

The major in computer and management information systems requires 52-53 credits of coursework.

Core CMIS courses

  • ACC 101 "Management of Financial Resources" (3 credits)
  • MTH 110 "Pre-calculus" or 140 "Elementary Functions" (3 credits)
Note: Students considering a Computer Science major should take 140 rather than 110.
  • CSC/MTH 156 "Discrete Structures" (3 credits)
  • BUS 162 "Introduction to Business" (3 credits)
  • CSC 170 "Introduction to Computers and Their Applications" (3 credits)
  • CSC 171 "Introduction to Computer Programming" (3 credits)
  • either CSC 172 "Introduction to Algorithms and Data Structures"
or CSC 173 "Introduction to Computer Science IIA" (3 credits).
Students planning to take further computer programming courses are advised to take CSC 172 rather than 173.
  • MGT 262 "Principles of Management" (3 credits)
  • OPR 271 "Information Technology and Applications" (4 credits)
  • either OPR 272 "Analytical and Statistical Modeling" (4 credits)
or MTH 114 "Statistics for the Sciences" (3 credits)
  • OPR 373 "Management of Production and Operations" (3 credits)
  • either CSC 443 "Database Management Systems"
or OPR 475 "Database Management Systems" (3 credits)
  • BUS/CSC 480 "Senior Seminar in Information Systems" (3 credits)
(If Senior Seminar is not offered in a given year, students are to take an additional technical elective from the list below instead.)

Technical electives

Students are to choose four courses (12 credits) from the following list, including at least two CSC courses:
  • CSC 174 "Computer Organization and Assembly Language" (3 credits)
  • CSC 233 "Graphical User Interface Programming" (3 credits)
  • CSC 270 "Survey of Programming Languages" (3 credits)
  • CSC 271 "Software I: Unix" (3 credits)
  • CSC 333 "Computer Graphics" (3 credits)
  • CSC 390 "Special Topics in Computer Science" (3 credits)
  • CSC 440 "Software Engineering" (3 credits)
  • CSC 450 "Computer Networks" (3 credits)
  • OPR 471 "System Analysis and Design" (3 credits)
  • OPR 474 "Data Communication" (3 credits)
