Yes. Auditions are made by appointment. They are held on Mondays and Thursdays throughout the scholastic year. You will be required to present a two-three minute solo. This piece need not be performed in costume, but you should bring a CD or tape for the presentation. Ballet attire is pink or flesh colored tights for women, black tights for men, and ballet slippers. Modern attire is black, footless tights. How many dance studios are there?
The Dance Department has four state-of-the-art dance studios, along with dedicated lockers and dressing facilities. Through the use of a motorized divider and retractable seating, the cleverly designed 178-seat Dance Theatre transforms two of the separate and large rehearsal studios into one modern performance space. It comes equipped with a full complement of theatrical lighting and audio equipment.
How big are the dance classes?
Although this depends on the size of both the studio and the number of students, there are no more than 18 per technique class and sometimes as few as 4.
Is there live accompaniment for dance classes?
Yes. All technique classes have live accompaniment.
Are there more modern or ballet courses?
There are equal numbers: eight levels of ballet and eight levels of modern.
Who can take a dance course?
You must be registered in the Dance Department to participate in dance classes. Only majors and minors may take the classes reserved for them, but there are at least four classes available for general education students.
How many dance majors are there?
The number of dance majors changes from year to year, currently we have over 50 dance majors, and over 30 dance minors.
How many faculty members are there?
There are two full-time, and five adjunct faculty members, and one full-time staff member.
Are there performance opportunities?
Definitely. There is a minimum of two main-stage productions with 14 performances and two student workshop-performances per scholastic year. Check our calendar for details of our on- and off-campus performances.
May I major in two departments?
No. You may major in dance and minor in another

department.
What do dance majors do when they graduate?
Our dance majors have become professional dancers, choreographers, dance teachers among other professions.
May I audit a dance course?
Yes. You must register with the
Office of the Registrar.
Is there scholarship help available?
Yes. The Chair of the Dance Department may recommend you for a scholarship.
