The Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) with a specialization in design/technical theatre combines behind-the-scenes training with practical experience. The program emphasizes the development of competence in scenic and costume rendering, scene painting, costume construction and crafts, stage lighting, and preparation of portfolio material.

Students are trained in the many design aspects and technical functions of the performing arts. This study involves analysis and comparison of the historical, critical, and aesthetic contexts in which the dramatic tradition has developed.

Students are required to meet the University's General Education requirements and take an additional 63 credits to earn the B.F.A. degree. The plan of study includes a combination of required courses and electives. Students must also meet the University's General Education requirements. In their third year, students will have an interview and portfolio review. With faculty advisement, they will select a specialty in one of the major areas of theatre:
  • technology
  • design (scenic, costume, lighting)
  • stage management.

Adelphi also offers a minor in theatre design/technology.
