Dear Friends:

Thank you for joining us in our ’07-’08 season.

Our New Building
We're thrilled to consider that our theatre, dance, and music productions will soon be presented in a wonderful new building.  And we’re enormously grateful that President Robert Scott and our senior University leadership continue to give the arts such pronounced support. Our new Performing Arts Center will be completed by the earlier part of 2008; a year which also marks the 70th anniversary of both our dance and music departments. And we will be presenting our performances in that new state-of-the art facility on our Garden City campus beginning the Fall of 2008.

I've occasionally been asked how our faculty choose which artworks to promote. The answer is straightforward, and stems from the fact that our community possesses a dual dedication to conservatory-type training and liberal arts education. With this dual dedication, our faculty choose artworks that might best support our central pursuit of three complementary and overlapping goals: to challenge and nurture the development of young artistic talent; to advance rich artistic traditions; and to enhance the life experience of our community members.

To put it another way, we have an overt and explicit interest in respecting artistic heritages and enriching life and living. We don't only do art for art's sake, we do art for life's sake.

We treasure the opportunity to share our artmaking with you. It's a wonderful opportunity for us. And I hope that you will experience in today's performance something of the extraordinary vitality and promise that is released when talented young artists – in response to wise mentorship – give something their all.

I hope you will attend many Adelphi sponsored arts events during this and coming seasons, and continue to provide us with much needed support as we move towards an enormously exciting future.
