POL 240: Ancient & Medieval Political Theory In The Western World

This course examines the works of selected Western political philosophers from the Ancient and Medieval periods of political theory, roughly 400 B.C.E.-1400 C.E. It includes theorists such as Plato, Aristole, St. Augustine, Cicero, and St. Thomas Aquinas. The course explores questions like: What is the best life a human being can live? What is the best form of government? How should political communities mediate conflicts between individual goods and social goods? What roles do education, reason and faith play in politics?
