Pi Sigma Alpha is the national Political Science honor society, with over 420 chapters at leading colleges and universities in the United States. The qualifications for induction into Adelphi's Nu Theta chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha include:
- at least four completed Political Science courses (including one at the 300 level)
- a "B" or better in every Political Science course taken
- an overall university QPA of at least 3.0.
It is not necessary to be a Political Science major to be eligible for induction.
New Pi Sigma Alpha members and their families are invited to the induction ceremony at the annual Political Science dinner. This event is also attended by the department’s faculty members, graduating seniors, and their families.
Membership in Adelphi’s chapter makes one eligible to compete for lucrative national Pi Sigma Alpha competitions and awardsincluding "Best Undergraduate Paper in Political Science," "Best Honors Thesis in Political Science," and Washington, D.C. internship stipends. Additionally, induction accentuates academic achievement and organizational involvement, qualities of interest to many employers, graduate schools and law schools.
