The Department of Sociology recognizes student achievement with the presentation of annual department awards to graduating seniors. Students may also be invited to join Alpha Kappa Delta, the International Sociology Honor Society.
Awards
The awards are based on the submission of papers which are judged by the entire department faculty. The awards include the:
- Bensman-Vidich Award for Excellence in Academic Research
- Elliot Liebow Award for Excellence in Field Research
- William Spinrad Award for Excellence in Term Papers.
- Paul Lazarsfeld Award in Quantitative Research
Announcements regarding the submission of papers to be eligible for these awards are made early in the spring semester. Any senior is eligible to enter the competition.
Each spring the awards are presented by the faculty at the Awards Banquet for the honorees and their parents.

Alpha Kappa Delta
Students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 in sociology will be invited to join Alpha Kappa Delta in their senior year.
