In spring 2010, the Office of Academic Services & Retention administered a survey to each of the following constituencies: undergraduate students, academic advisors, and staff. The purpose of the surveys was to assess academic advising, and the services offered by the Office of Academic Services.
Three thousand undergraduate students responded to the survey for a response rate of 63 percent. Half of all respondents schedule their advising appointments in advance and 59 percent said they spend a lot of time planning out their schedule prior to their advising appointment. Overall, respondents were satisfied with their advising; the majority of respondents noted that advisors provide accurate information, are willing to discuss problems related to academic success, are courteous and respectful, are available to provide assistance, and are concerned about the students’ welfare.
Almost 200 faculty advisors completed the advisor survey, and 161 respondents completed the staff survey. Overall, both faculty advisors and staff rated the services provided by the Office of Academic Services positively.
