Welcome
Dear Colleagues,

February 25, 2009

The Sixth Annual Adelphi Research Conference, Spanning the Scholarly Spectrum, will be held on April 20, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the University Center.  As with last year, there will be no scheduled classes conflicting with this conference.

We invite you to take advantage of this unique and rich opportunity to support and recognize the scholarship emerging from the collaborative efforts of students and their faculty mentors throughout the university. We urge you to encourage your students to participate

What is the conference about?
This university wide event celebrates the efforts of students and their mentors to expand the classroom learning experience through research. It demonstrates the role of research in enhancing critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.  Last year the conference showcased over 70 examples of student research and creative works from over 100 student participants.

The conference is designed to accomplish the following goals:
  • Highlight the broad scope and outstanding caliber of research conducted by Adelphi University students,
  • Encourage intellectual discourse and exchange of ideas among undergraduate, graduate students, and faculty.
  • Provide a unique opportunity for students and their mentors to share their research with fellow members of the Adelphi academic community.

How can I participate?
Here are some ways faculty members and students can participate:

Faculty participation:

  • Encourage your students whose work you believe is appropriate to submit a presentation
  • Volunteer to be a faculty reviewer during the conference
  • Bring your classes to the conference
Student participation:
  • All graduate and undergraduate students are invited to participate.
  • Prepare and submit an abstract to qualify your work for inclusion in the conference
  • Volunteer to be a student reviewer
  • Attend the conference

What types of work can be submitted?
In the past this conference has showcased research and other scholarly works by students in all disciplines, including the Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities and the Arts.  Multimedia presentations, a variety of art projects, capstone research projects, works in progress, and completed scientific research have been presented.  Students can submit their work for presentation in either poster or oral (PowerPoint) format.

What is the submission deadline?
All abstracts are due no later than 4:00 p.m., March 13, 2009.

How do I submit an abstract?
