Adelphi in Mexico
This "immersion learning" program, offered in conjunction with the University of Veracruz, gives students the opportunity to acquire proficiency in Spanish, experience Mexican culture and acquire an understanding of social work in an international setting.
This experience will be part of a three-credit undergraduate course, "Special Topics: Comparative Social Work Practice" which is taught by Professor Mullin. Class work will begin prior to the trip, and will continue while in Mexico.
Students will live with host families, attend Spanish language classes, and visit social agencies and meet with local social workers in the area. In addition, the Adelphi group will take advantage of various cultural events available in and around Xalapa and Veracruz.
Xalapa, located 1 1/2 hours north of the port city of Veracruz, is the capital of the state of Veracruz, and is the home of the main campus of the University of Veracruz. Xalapa is also the site for the University's International School, and thus includes students from numerous U.S. schools in a variety of disciplines.
