International Faculty Development is an integral component of University Internationalization. Studying abroad provides students the opportunity to acquire intercultural and international skills and values. The world is changing rapidly and faculty need also to update their international knowledge. They will transfer their new experiences and information to campus and be able to influence their students and colleagues with a new acquired international knowledge and understanding.

CIEE offers thematic faculty seminars in 27 countries around the globe in the following countries: Botswana, Ghana, Senegal, South Africa, China, India, Korea, Mongolia, Vietnam, Australia, France, Ireland, Italy, Poland & Ukraine, Russia, Spain & Morocco, Chile & Argentina, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Jordan, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates & Oman.

"CIEE International Faculty Development Seminars have proven to be instrumental in internationalizing curricula, advancing research, diversifying faculty expertise at institutions of higher education, encouraging new perspectives on and modes of teaching, expanding the international network of scholars, and maintaining the overall vitality of faculty and administration"
excerpt from CIEE 2009 brochure

Adelphi has joined the Center for International Educational Exchange (CIEE) in order to send a number of faculty members to their International Faculty Development Seminars (IFDS). The Provost Office established the first two (2) grants in 2009 and funded two Adelphi faculty members to attend seminars in Spain and Morocco “Exploring the Coexistence and Challenges of Neighboring Cultures”, and in Mexico “Contemporary Mexico through Art, Literature, and Cinema”. More grants will be offered every year for summer participation.

The grants (approximate value $4,000–$5,000) cover seminar fees including: academic program, accommodations in single rooms, 2 meals per day, medical insurance, excursions and transportation, airport pick up, and round trip airfare. Not included: passport costs, visas, departure taxes, dinners, and personal expenses.

Applications should be submitted via email to the Center for International Education cie@adelphi.edu by the second Friday in December for the next year Summer Seminars, describing briefly teaching and research interests, how the candidate expects to benefit professionally from the seminar, and how she/he intends to contribute with the new acquired experience to  campus internationalization (developing and/or revising existing courses and/or syllabi, encouraging students to study abroad). A three-person committee comprised by the Provost, the Associate Provost for Research, and the Director of the Center for International Education will evaluate applications and notify the awards.
