Faculty-led programs have limited capacity. The earlier you apply the better your chances of attendance. If interested, please fill out the Study Abroad Application and return it with a $300 non-refundable deposit (unless otherwise noted)to the Center for International Education, Alumnae Hall 111.
All short term programs, whether they are Adelphi faculty-led programs
or programs independent of Adelphi carry a $150 Adelphi Study Abroad
Fee, which will be assessed on your tuition bill.
For faculty led programs during intersession, spring break, and some summer courses, the study abroad course will be counted as part of the spring course load. Therefore, undergraduate students who register for 17 credits or less (including the study abroad course), will not be charged additional tuition for the course. However, if undergraduate students go over the 17 credits, they will have to pay the per credit rate for additional credits. For most summer programs, students will pay both the program fee and tuition associated with the course. Graduate students pay the tuition for the course as well as the program fee for programs in all terms.

Arizona May 20–24, 2013
Come explore the crossroads of cultural, socio-economic and healthcare issues on a Native American reservation in the heart of the Arizona desert. This nursing program blends anthropological, historical and environmental components through an experiential process, working with established healthcare programs offered to the Hopi and Dine/Navajo tribes of Native Americans.
The Adelphi University School of Social Work is pleased to announce Adelphi in the Baltic, a study abroad elective course opportunity for social work students and alumni, or those interested in social work. Adelphi in the Baltic is designed to meet the needs of both prospective and active social work practitioners, who need the skills and capacities to practice in a diverse, global context. Participants will be exposed to an enriching series of social work lectures, community agency visits and travel over 14 days in the Baltic region and learn firsthand about their successful models of social welfare. The program includes 7 days in Stockholm, Sweden, a stunning cruise across the Baltic Sea to Finland, followed by 4 days in Helsinki, and 3 days in Talinn, Estonia before our return flight to New York.
Undergraduate and graduate students are invited to participate in the program as a 3-credit Spring term elective within the School of Social Work. These students will begin the program with 8 hours of U.S. based lectures and readings during the spring semester followed by the travel portion of the trip at the semester's end. For alumni participants who wish to participate in the experience for continuing education purposes, travel will take place following an abbreviated 3 hour pre-departure lecture and orientation. Students who register for elective credit will pay 3 credit spring course tuition costs in addition to the travel costs, estimated to be $3,800 (including roundtrip airfare, all lodging, all internal travel, and most meals). Alumni will pay travel costs plus a $635 continuing education fee.

This Social Work program is a rare opportunity for learning and experiencing first-hand the unique characteristics, effects, challenges and intervention strategies that are applicable in a society residing at the intersection of ongoing exposure to highly stressful and potentially traumatizing events and multiculturalism, within the context of breathtaking natural beauty and the ancient historical sites of Israel. M.S.W. program participants will have the opportunity to meet with social workers, students, educators and non-profits in an effort to increase cultural sensitivity and competence.
Spend the beginning of your summer under the Spanish sun, improving your Spanish language skills and learning about Spanish culture. This 3-week intensive offers you 3-6 credits in language and electives, with the possibility of extending the program for a second session. Elective courses include International Business, Renewable Energy and Cultural Studies.

This intensive language course gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the language and culture of Italy in one of the best-preserved medieval cities of Europe. Come sip your café crème in southern France this summer and chat with the locals en français! Join your Adelphi colleagues and other international students in this cozy city nestled in the heart of the Pyrenees Mountains, conveniently located for trips to Spain, Bordeaux and the French Riviera. Immerse yourself in French culture and conversation while enjoying the glorious surroundings. Students of all levels (beginning, intermediate and advanced) will travel over together for the first session of this language institute and can take 3-5 credits in language and electives. There are also options to participate in course excursions (to Paris and the Basque Coast) or to remain for the second session of the program. Electives in 2013 include short courses on Albert Camus, French cinema, Drawing and Art. Allons-y!
Come spend part of your summer in the Umbrian hills reflecting on the power of culture, history, tradition and language in psychological development and behavior. Students will have the opportunity to travel to Orvieto, Italy and live in a medieval monastery while studying the theoretical, empirical and practical clinical issues associated with identity, culture and the spectrum of difference in the United States. This course focuses on the issues associated with
theory, research, clinical practice and training in psychology and mental health, as students are exposed to the everyday life of a people living within a different culture and who speak a different language.
Experience the beauty and spirituality of this natural wonderland while working with one of Costa Rica's finest hospitals that provides medical, deontological, and psychological attention to lower-income families. Nursing students will perform health assessments and participate in educational experiences with an indigent population of adults and children in a clinical and school setting. Experience one of the world’s largest economies first-hand through this faculty-led program to China that will visit Beijing, Nanjing and Shanghai. Students will visit local Chinese businesses, tour Chinese universities and interact with Chinese students, as well as visit amazing sites such as the Great Wall of China and the Forbidden City. The program includes air transportation, transfers, admission to cultural excursions, lodging and most meals. The estimated cost is $3,375.
Explore the London theater scene through this three-credit course during the 2013 winter intersession. Participants will depart for London on January 7 and return to the U.S. on January 17. In between, students will see eight theater productions, visit Stratford-on-Avon and the Royal Shakespeare Theater, as well as tour the Globe Theatre, the Victoria and Albert Theatre Museum and the section of London known as Theatreland...all in addition to exploring the city of London during free time. The program includes: air transportation, lodging in a four-star hotel, eight theatre tickets, cultural excursions, and a ‘pub’ dinner. Meals are not included. The estimated cost is $3,600.
Travel to Costa Rica and explore the interconnections between
contemporary peace building, human rights and sustainable development
through this course offered in partnership with the United Nations’ University for Peace. It will draw on the unique experience of Costa
Rica, as one of the oldest democracies in Latin America, to illustrate
the complexities of diplomacy and development in today’s changing
world. The program fee is $2,800 and includes: air transportation,
airport transfers, lodging, cultural excursions, most meals, and
international health insurance.
Explore the rich music and dance traditions of India and how they have influenced India’s history and culture through the ages. This program will be based in Bangalore where students will attend performances as well as have a chance to learn from local musicians and dancers. Students will also participate in community service, working with children, through the William Joseph Foundation and Academy.The estimated program fee is $3,300 and includes: air transportation, airport transfers, lodging, cultural excursions, most meals, and international health insurance.
Explore the history, culture and healthcare policies of Peru through community service during the January Intersession 2013! Students will participate in community development programs at the Samana Wasi Children’s Home and the Chincha Baja Project, devoted to persons with neurological and physical limitations, as well as visit Peru’s famed Aniquem Hospital. Between service projects, students will have the opportunity to explore Machu Pichu. The estimated program fee is $3,475 and includes most travel costs related to the trip. In addition, students will also register for the one credit course associated with the program.
Adelphi's Ruth S. Ammon School of Education is offering students an opportunity to travel to Kerala, India, during the January 2012 Intersession, and take a course focused on Special Education. Assumption College, affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi University, is partnering with Adelphi for this study abroad opportunity. Students will learn about and experience special education in India and how it compares to the services offered in the United States. Students will participate in site visits and work with children with disabilities as well as with families in school settings. There will be opportunities for students to spend time with Indian families in Kerala to learn about their traditions and daily life. Excursions will include a day spent on a house boat, visiting local wildlife (possibly elephant rides), and tours of the regions museums and palaces.

This course emphasizes the problems we encounter with water pollution, soil pollution, chemical and biological toxicity. Inquiry style experiments are designed to promote analysis of data, and problem solving techniques to find possible answers to difficult environmental questions—a special emphasis will be placed on how Norway deals with and approaches these environmental concerns.
The course is being offered in collaboration with the American College
of Norway in Moss, Norway.

This program, open to School of Nursing students only, is an
opportunity to be of service to "at-risk" children and families in
Peru. Participants will have multiple opportunities to immerse in the
ancient and colorful culture of Peru including exploration of Machu
Picchu, a 15th century Inca site.

Did you ever want to learn Spanish while speaking and listening to native speakers? Enjoy relaxed conversation in tapas bars and cafes? Experience a live Flamenco performance and take a Flamenco workshop...all while exploring the city of Seville, Spain? This is your opportunity to travel to Spain and learn Spanish. The program is open to beginning, intermediate and advanced speakers and is in cooperation with The Center for Cross-Cultural Study. Students will be placed in the appropriate Spanish level after a placement exam and will receive three Adelphi credits upon successful completion of the program. Adelphi Professor Rakhel Villamil-Acera will accompany and spend the first week of the program in Seville with the students. The program includes the academic fee, an orientation, study tours (Cordoba, La Rabida and the beach), room and board (double room in a Seville home, three meals per day and laundry) and international health insurance. The cost does not include international airfare and other personal expenses.
