The Armory Show

The International Exhibition of Modern Art, better known as The Armory Show, opened on February 17th 1913 in New York City in the 69th Regiment Armory building. Its major organizers were American painters Walt Kuhn (1877-1949) and Arthur B. Davies (1862-1928), along with the painter-critic Walter Pach.

The show was the first large-scale exhibit of 20th century modern art from Europe and America, and exhibited more than 1600 works. In New York, more than 70,000 people attended during the month-long run. The exhibit went on to the Art Institute of Chicago and then to Boston after which the show returned to New York.
