Technical Information |
Technology Requirements:
- A reliable Internet connection; you may need to access the Internet several times a day. Broadband connections offered by cable or DSL are essential.
- Internet Explorer for PCs or Mozilla Firefox for PCs or Macs. Please note that if you use AOL as your Internet service provider, you must also have another browser installed in order to properly access Adelphi’s online courses.
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint viewer)
- Adobe Acrobat Reader (free download)
Technical Skills for Students:
- Familiarity with copying and pasting text
- Ability to save/download files to a local PC/Mac
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn the online course delivery platform (i.e., Blackboard).
- Ability to open and save email attachments to a local machine, and attach documents to emails
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint software.
- If you experience technological trouble or difficulty with the course content, it is your responsibility to contact the instructor immediately.
Technical Skills for Faculty
- Post materials in Blackboard: embedded, as attachments, and in the form of links
- Create and manage a discussion forum in Blackboard
- Create and administer surveys, quizzes and/or tests in Blackboard
- Publish students grades via the Blackboard grade book
- Guide students through the online course environment
- Identify commonly accessible file formats and know how to save them
- Resize graphics so they can be easily viewed in Blackboard
- Install necessary computer "plug-ins" for the course
- Set up an E-reserve with the library, and make it available to students via Blackboard.
- Understand how to provide material in a manner accessible to students with disabilities
