Adelphi Online - Distance Learning at Adelphi University
About Us Programs Students Faculty Contact Us

Adelphi University offers courses in both blended and fully online formats in several academic programs.

A blended course is one for which 30-79% of the course is conducted online. Attendance at specified campus sessions is still required. The percentage of instruction that occurs online is dependent upon the course content and is at the discretion of the faculty.

A course is considered online if more than 80% of the sessions are Web-based, however, some are 100% online. If the course listing does not specify whether the class is fully online, contact the affiliated academic office for details.

The following Adelphi University schools and colleges currently offer courses and programs of study online:

College of Arts and Sciences
Ruth S. Ammon School of Education
School of Business
School of Business
School of Nursing
School of Social Work
University College

If you are interested in enrolling and want to find out more information about online courses and how to register for them, contact your academic adviser, call 516.877.3412 or e-mail ucinfo@adelphi.edu.

Course Design and Approval

Adelphi’s Distance Learning courses and programs go through the same rigorous approval process as our traditional offerings.

New online courses created for the Distance Learning program are reviewed and approved by the Academic Affairs Committee, Faculty Senate Committee on Faculty Affairs, and full Faculty Senate of Adelphi. Course proposals must include a detailed rationale for the course, a syllabus that clearly details the learning goals and objectives, a course bibliography, a detailed outline of course activities, and a description of methods used to gauge student learning. The proposal forms for online courses are the same as those required by the Faculty Senate for all new courses regardless of delivery methodology.

All existing Adelphi courses that offer Distance Learning sections use the same Faculty Senate approved syllabi as the live instruction courses. Regardless of course delivery methodology, students enrolled in these courses must meet the same learning goals and objectives detailed in the course syllabi. Additionally, the Academic Affairs Committee must approve the Distance Learning sections for academic standards before they can be offered in the program.

The syllabus will be available to students via Moodle once they have registered and enrolled in the course.

Academic Planning

The courses that make up any Adelphi Distance Learning program are offered in a sequence or configuration that allows timely completion of requirements. Online course offerings will be determined by the student enrollment and registration within the degree program, as is the case with all other traditional degree programs in University College.  Each semester, a wide array of courses offerings will be made available online to students enrolled in the degree, so that regardless of where they are in their progress toward a degree, students will have courses available that meet the needs of core, general education and major requirements in the degree.

University College advisers will closely monitor all students enrolled in the Distance Learning degree programs to ensure that the proper variety of courses is available to them each semester as they progress toward graduation.
