You will be encouraged to accept new responsibilities and become independent. University and academic life will challenge you as well as offer great occasions for success and accomplishment.
The first step in this process is to become acquainted with university and academic life. There are many choices you will make in college that you never had to make before. Additionally, there are terms, rules, and guidelines you may find new and unfamiliar. This book will help clarify these unknowns and show you the Adelphi resources available to help you on your educational path.
The decision to continue your education and attend college is perhaps one of the most important decisions of your life and the first year of college is one of the most critical times. Thoughtfully consider the information offered here and utilize the university resources made available to you.
Your first academic advising meeting will be at Orientation during the summer before your freshman year. At this meeting, you will choose courses for your first semester in consultation with an academic advisor.
Because academic advising is central to the educational mission of Adelphi University, all students are assigned an academic advisor and must receive advisor approval each semester in order to register. If you have declared a major, you will meet with a faculty advisor in that major. If you are undeclared, you will meet with an academic advisor knowledgeable of course selections for undeclared students.
Advisement is a continuous process that begins with Freshman Registration and culminates in graduation. It challenges and supports students as they examine, determine, and achieve their educational goals.
