Frequently Asked Questions

I was able to register for one semester while my application was pending. Will I be able to register for next semester if it's still pending?
No, you must complete all the necessary paperwork and be officially accepted into University College before you can register for another semester. The complete application includes:
- The completed online University College Programs Application for Admission
- An application fee of $35, payable online at submission. This fee is not refundable and is not credited on any subsequent bill.
- If you have completed fewer than 30 college credits or are applying to a University College program, in 500 words or fewer, subit a response to one of the following essay topics:
- Explain your reasons for wanting to attend Adelphi University.
- Describe a personal accomplishment of which you are particularly proud and explain why.
- Discuss a current event or issue of local, national, or international significance. You may include both objective and subjective views on the subject.
- Your official high school transcript, indicating date of graduation. NOTE: The high school transcript is not necessary for students who have completed or have in-progress a minimum of 30 college credits at a regionally accredited college.
- Official transcripts from each college previously or currently attended including courses in progress (if applicable)

Is it mandatory that I receive immunizations before I attend Adelphi?
No, but it is mandatory that you complete the immunization form. Students can choose not to be immunized, but must sign the form stating they opted not to be immunized. This form accompanies the application packet. If the form is not completed it will place a block on your registration. For more information on immunization forms please contact the Health Services Center at 516.877.6000.

Am I eligible for financial aid during the time my application is pending?
No, students are not eligble for financial aid until they are officially accepted into University College. Once accepted, University College students are eligible for a wide variety of student financial aid and loan programs. I applied to University College, but I am not ready to attend yet. Will I have to apply again?
No, we can re-activate your application once you have decided you are ready to enroll, up to a year from the initial application date.

Can I come back to University College after taking time off?
Yes, University College welcomes back returning students. We simply require a re-admit form to be completed and handed in to Academic Services.

How do I apply for an Independent Study?
An Independent Study is used when a student only needs 1-2 more credits to graduate. The paper is ompleted in conjunction with one professor on the topic to be decided by the student. A contract must be signed by the student, the instructor, the academic adviser, and Assistant Director Emily Wilson. Students can register for this by speaking to their academic adviser by calling 516.877.3400 or sending an email to ucinfo@adelphi.edu.
