Candidates for this degree must have completed at least 64 credits, 30 of which must be taken in graded course work at the University. No more than 34 of the total credits may be awarded from prior learning. In all cases, candidates must have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.5.
In addition to the 16 credits of core liberal arts requirements, the A.A. in Liberal Arts requires two humanistic studies foundation courses, two social sciences foundation courses and two art courses. Students must also complete 24-30 credits of elective credits chosen with the help of their academic adviser.

Degree Overview
Students pursuing the A.A. in Liberal Arts will first complete 16 credits of core course requirements. Core classes serve as introductions to specific areas in the liberal arts. Once the core classes are completed, students complete at least 18 credits of general education requirements. The remaining 24-30 credits can be completed with elective courses.
Students can apply for a maximum of 34 credits in prior learning that can be applied to this degree program. A student taking the full 34 credits in prior learning can potentially complete the degree in as little as two semesters. The associate’s degree allows the student to pursue any other bachelor’s degrees in University College with a minimum amount of additional coursework.

Who Should Apply?
Students pursing the A.A. in Liberal Arts typically wish to achieve a broad, liberal-arts based degree that can assist them with their career goals and be easily incorporated into a bachelor’s degree program at a later date. With the University College’s 4 credit courses, accelerated schedules and prior learning credits, student can achieve this degree in as little as two semesters. Student who wish to apply to a bachelor’s degree program at some point in the future, but want to achieve an academic degree first, often choose the associate’s degree program.
