Adelphi University/New York Law School Joint Degree Program

3-3 B.A./B.S. and J.D. Program
This combined plan program enables students to receive both a bachelor's degree and a J.D. degree in only six years—one year less than generally required. Students must complete major coursework and earn a minimum of 90 credits by the end of their Junior Year.  Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA or better. Students would take the required prerequisite courses at Adelphi University and after the completion of their junior year, transfer to the New York Law School (NYLS) in Manhattan to pursue their J.D.

Upon acceptance into the program, students will be assigned an adviser from the New York Law School. While at Adelphi, students must demonstrate excellent writing skills and pursue a rigorous academic major. After successful completion of the first year at New York Law School, students would receive their B.A./B.S. degree from Adelphi.

On completion of the third year of the undergrad program registration into the NYLS program is dependent upon satisfying the requirements above along with completion of a modified law school admission application form that includes updated information in response to NYLS application questions relevant to character and fitness issues.

In this program Adelphi awards the undergraduate degree upon successful completion of the first-year program at NYLS. Students should forward an official transcript from NYLS to Adelphi and file for an application for graduation with Adelphi's Office of the University Registrar.

When completing their application to Adelphi, students should specify their interest in this joint degree program on the special programs page.  Prospective students granted admission to Adelphi may at the same time be granted admission to New York Law School by satisfying the minimum criteria.  To continue on to New York Law School, students need recommendation letters from their academic dean and pre-law adviser at Adelphi.  Contact a University College adviser for more information.
