Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts -
LPN Pre-Nursing Concentration

Adelphi University's University College and School of Nursing have combined to offer a unique degree program that assists Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) who want to earn a Bachelor's degree in nursing and pursue their nursing career goals. This unique program allows student to receive college credit for their LPN training and other work experiences, take courses on a schedule that allows them to continue to work full time, and finish their Bachelor's degree program in less time and at less expense than traditional undergraduate programs. Students enroll in University College and receive credit for their LPN training while they earn an Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts and prepare for admission to the School of Nursing. Then, providing they are successfully admitted to the School of Nursing, LPN students are allowed to take challenge exams that would them to exempt up to 12 credits of their Bachelor's degree program.


Admission Requirements

Please Note: Admission into the University College Arts in Liberal Arts - LPN Pre-Nursing Path program does not guarantee admission into the Adelphi School of Nursing Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. Upon enrollment, University College advisers will discuss the Nursing admissions requirements and will work with the student to meet or maintain those requirements as they go through the AA degree program.

University College Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts - LPN Pre-Nursing Path
Admission to Adult Academic Programs in University College is based on your ability to do college-level work. Although past academic records are required and reviewed, we are more concerned with your present motivation to earn a degree than your previous academic performance. To be admitted to the AA in Liberal Arts degree program student must provide:

  • A current New York State license as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • A completed University College application and payment of the $35 application fee
    • Application can be completed online or a free application packet can be mailed to you by contacting 516.877.3412 or emailing ucinfo@adelphi.edu.
    A 500 word, or less, essay discussing your reasons for wanting to pursue a degree in Nursing.
  • If you have completed less than 30 credits from a regionally accredited institution, an official high school transcript, indicating the date of graduation. If you have completed 30 or more credits from a regionally accredited institution, you do not need to provide a high school transcript.
  • Official transcripts for each college currently or previously attended. We have provided a Request of Transcript form for your use online at this link: http://academics.adelphi.edu/universitycollege/pdfs/transcript_request.pdf
  • Students who have failed out of any other Nursing degree program, including Adelphi's, will not be admitted to this program.
