Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts: Studio Art

The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Fine Arts -Studio Art track is for students with interest and talent in the field of visual arts. The program offers courses in photography, drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art, and art history. In addition to arts classes, students are required to complete a series of general education classes and liberal arts electives. As a result, students develop strong writing and critical thinking skills along with expertise in the arts.


Degree Overview:

To earn a B.A. in Fine Arts, students must complete 120 credits of coursework divided among:

  • 16 credits of foundation classes.  Foundation classes serve as introductions to specific areas in the arts; Introduction to Digital Art, Introduction to Photography and Drawing and Composition are all examples of foundation classes. 
  • 16 credits of advanced classes.  Advanced Studio Classes allow students to develop skills in the arts disciplines which match their interests and career goals. 
  • general education requirements
  • at least 42 credits of liberal arts electives.

Who Should Apply

The Fine Arts program attracts students from a wide variety of academic and professional backgrounds.  Many students who decide to pursue a B.A. in Fine Arts are already working in careers that utilize arts skills. For example, professionals in the fields of graphic design, marketing and publishing have sought to advance their career by earning this degree. In some cases, students have completed coursework that includes fine arts classes at another school, and are seeking to finish their undergraduate degree at Adelphi.
