The Associate of Science (A.S.) degree in Emergency Services Administration is for students who want a liberal arts-based degree that will also prepare them for a career in the growing field of emergency services. This option allows students to quickly achieve a credential that can benefit their career while preparing themselves for a future bachelor’s degree program. Students can receive up to 30 credits in prior learning, including credit for their academy training, making it possible to complete this degree program in two semesters. The A.S. includes all of the same required liberal arts core courses as other bachelor’s programs at Adelphi. This program is available entirely online or can be completed taking a mixture of online and live-instruction courses.

Degree Overview

Students pursuing the A.S. degree in Emergency Services Administration will first complete 35 credits of core course requirements. Core classes serve as introductions to specific areas in the liberal arts and emergency services. Once the core class requirement is satisfied, students complete at least 12 credits of emergency services courses. The remaining 22 credits can be completed with elective general education courses. Students must complete 64 credits to earn their A.S. degree.

Students can apply for a maximum of 30 credits in prior learning that can be applied to this program, with a maximum of 16 coming from emergency services experience. A student taking the full 30 credits in prior learning can potentially complete the degree in as little as two semesters. The prior learning credits can include credit for fire or police academy training or EMS certification programs. This A.S. degree is an excellent preparation for the Bachelor of Science program in emergency services administration and allows a student to earn an academic credential while they continue to work full time while pursuing their educational goals.
