Alan Cooper, Ph.D.
Alan Cooper, Ph.D. is the current VP of North Shore-LIJ's Center for Learning and Innovation.  He is the former Administrative Director for Emergency Services at North Shore-LIJ, the former Commissioner Garden City, NY Water and Fire District and the former Executive Director of the Nassau Regional Emergency Medical Services Council.  Dr. Cooper holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from Adelphi's Derner Institute for Advanced Psychological Studies and his MBA from Adelphi's School of Business.


Graduate Certificate in Emergency Management

Richard A. Rotanz
Richard A. Rotanz is the former commissioner for the Office of Emergency Management of Nassau County and former deputy commissioner of New York City's Office of Emergency Management under Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani.  He was an integral force in re-establishing and managing the City’s Emergency Operation Center during the 2001 World Trade Center attack. His extensive work at Ground Zero includes coordinating the evacuation and rescue of building occupants of Tower One and Seven World Trade Center.

He has more than thirty-five years of experience in emergency management, fire protection, rescue tactics, hazardous materials incidents, and planning for all natural, civil, and technological hazards including acts of terrorism. 

In 2004, he helped Adelphi develop a graduate certificate program in emergency management to meet the distinct needs of the region. He is now with Adelphi University full time as Special Advisor to the Provost for Emergency Management Programs.

Nicholas C. Gaudiosi
Nicholas C. Gaudiosi is currently the Director of Life Safety for Lehman Brothers in the Americas. Prior to that, he worked as an emergency management and fire training consultant for national and international clients.

Mr. Gaudiosi served for over two decades in the New York City Fire Department, retiring as the Captain of Ladder 7. His past positions have also included being the project manager for the construction of the FDNY's Training Academy and as an emergency management planner for New York City's Mayor's Office of Emergency Management.

Mr. Gaudiosi is a former adjunct professor of fire safety at the John Jay College Fire Science Institute. He has a M.S. in Protection Management from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a B.S. in Business Administration from Fordham University.

Dr. Kenneth C. Rondello, M.D. M.P.H.
Dr. Kenneth C. Rondello, M.D. M.P.H. serves as the assistant professor of disaster health management and health services administration at Adelphi.  Prior to coming to Adelphi, he was the Associate Director of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System’s Center for Health Care Preparedness (CHCP), which was established to further education and research in the field of health care disaster readiness.  He oversaw Saint Barnabas’ participation in the Department of Health and Human Services’ Bioterrorism Training and Curriculum Development Program, which provided instruction to thousands of healthcare professionals in weapons of mass destruction, bioterrorism and emerging infections. In December 2002, Dr. Rondello was appointed Chief Epidemiologist of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Metro NY Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT NY-2), which provides critical emergency medical support to regions of the country overwhelmed by disaster. 

Dr. Rondello’s scholarly research focuses on the application of disaster epidemiology to epidemic and pandemic planning and response, specifically as it relates to the establishment and management of alternate care facilities and points of distribution.  Dr. Rondello has served as a consultant to the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Metropolitan Bioterrorism Taskforce, the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management, the Greater New York Hospital Association and several private companies.  Dr. Rondello trained at Yale University School of Medicine and Saint George’s Medical School in the United Kingdom.
