Master of Science in Emergency Management
The field of emergency management is one of the fastest growing sectors of the labor market, and predicted to continue to grow over the next decade. University College's Master of Science in Emergency Management is the first degree program of its kind in the Northeast. Principal competencies established by the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Emergency Management Institute were integrated throughout the curriculum to ensure that the graduate education provided is timely, comprehensive and best prepares our graduates for a career in municipal or private sector emergency management and disaster planning.
Through the course of their studies, students will have the opportunity to obtain several internationally recognized professional credentials in addition to their graduate degree, including certification by the International Association of Emergency Managers, the Disaster Recovery Institute International and the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response).

Degree Overview
The Master of Science in Emergency Management degree is a 39 credit program that culminates in an emergency management capstone research project and presentation. This degree program has been designed for working professionals who need to fit course work around their busy life and career responsibilities. Students study part time in the evenings and can complete the program in two calendar years by taking three courses a semester.
Students complete 30 core program credit requirements by completing required emergency management courses through University College and required management courses through the School of Business. Students then choose from one of three elective tracks: Environmental, Health or Government. Students then complete the program by preparing and presenting a comprehensive research paper in the summative Capstone course.
