School Personnel Administration Institute |
University College has partnered with faculty from the Ruth S. Ammon School of Education to offer a non-credit professional development program for k-12 school administrators. This Institute will cover several important topics for school administrators including contract negotiations, human resources, Board of Education meetings, and electronic records management. This program will offer both live instruction from Adelphi’s Garden City campus and online instruction through the AU’s Moodle course delivery system. Participants successfully completing the Institute will receive a non-credit certificate of completion through the Adelphi University Registrar’s Office.

Curriculum Description
This institute is designed provide an in-depth understanding of the concepts, practices and issues relating to the effective administration of human resources in the educational field. Today’s educational milieu requires that school human resource administrators be knowledgeable of federal and state guidelines and well as the local school district’s policies. This institute will provide specific, practical assistance to future human resource administrators in the successful realization of their main mission: positive outcomes for student learning.

Lead Instructor
Shirley E. Martin, Ed.D.
Shirley E. Martin is currently an Adjunct Professor in the School of Education at Adelphi University in Garden City, NY. She served as Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources in Baldwin UFSD in New York. In addition, Dr. Martin enjoyed the challenges of an elementary principalship for fourteen years in Uniondale, NY. She has over 34 years of experience in urban and suburban public school settings and has held positions of assistant principal and classroom teacher on elementary and secondary levels. Dr. Martin has been the recipient of many awards, including the Pathways to Leadership Scholarship Award from the New York State Council of School Superintendents. She received her doctorate in educational leadership at Seton Hall University, her M.S. in Reading from Brooklyn College, and her Professional Diploma in administration from Long Island University. Dr. Martin is also a curriculum consultant and has worked in several school districts on Long Island. She is a certified curriculum auditor with the Phi Delta Kappa’s Curriculum Management System, Inc.

Distance Education Component
Program participants will have remote access to course materials and distance education lessons via Adelphi’s Moodle course delivery system.
