Many University College students have studied at other colleges and universities prior to completing their degree at Adelphi.  Completed coursework from regionally accredited junior or senior colleges can be applied to your University College degree program even if you completed the course several years ago.  Staff from Adelphi’s Office of Admissions can quickly and efficiently review your transcripts from previous colleges to determine the amount of transfer credit that will be accepted.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of courses are acceptable as transfer credit?
If you have completed courses from a regionally accredited junior college (for example, Nassau Community College) or senior college  (for example, Hofstra), and you can provide a transcript from that school, it is likely that those credits will be accepted by University College.  Coursework from non-regionally accredited schools is less likely to be accepted for transfer credit, but may be eligible for Prior Learning credit.

How much credit can I transfer?
If you are transferring from a junior or community college, you can transfer up to 64 credits.  If you are transferring from a senior college, you can transfer up to 90 credits.  Adelphi requires that you complete the final 30 credits to be eligible for a University College degree.

What if I already have an Associate’s Degree from Nassau or Suffolk County Community College?
If you have an A.A. or A.S. degree from any regionally accredited community college, including Nassau and Suffolk Community Colleges, you can transfer all of those credits and skip University College’s General Education requirements when you transfer.  This will allow you to finish your degree faster by skipping the core group of courses other students must complete to receive their degree.

How do I get a transcript from my old college or university?  You must request and receive an official transcript from any college or university you previously attended in order to have those credits evaluated for transfer to University College.  Typically, you request transcripts through the college’s Registrar’s Office.  You can print out this Request of Transcript form (PDF 24KB) and send it to your previous college to have the transcript sent directly to University College.

I have my old transcripts and want to have them evaluated for transfer credit . How do I get started?  Contact a University College Academic Adviser to schedule an intake and review session to evaluate your transcripts.  You can contact them via (ucinfo@adelphi.edu) or at 516.877.3412.
